having fun on flickr

That's where I've been lately. I just upgraded to a flickr pro account so now there is no limit to the number of photos I can upload.

Here's a bit of my activity.

THRIFTED. Ooooooh.... pretty happy with this find. Set of 6 vintage glass cup and saucers made in France. See more in Team Thrift

NEW BEDS. "...see Mum! This is what happens on my little bed"
Toddler beds to King Single beds - thank goodness they share a big room as these beds are HUGE. See more in "Go to your room!" Kids rooms at home

COFFEE TIME. When we renovated our kitchen my gift to myself was a coffee machine..... now I'm in heaven all day long.
Sadly my Harry Bertoia mesh stool is a copy - one day I may be able to afford the real deal ;)

CRAFT. I did my first bit of sewing with 3 year old daughter - she picked the fabrics (OK maybe I nudged her a little in the right direction) and she watched me put it together, in between sorting my cottons and playing with the pins!! She likes to keep her daily "favourite things" in the bag and hang it on her door. Sweet.

OUT & ABOUT. Last weekend we went to Victor Harbour for a day, a coastal town about 1 hour road trip from home. It is where Dean & I first locked lips on New Years Eve of 1989 /90 - yeah yeah I know, too much information! See more in Outdoor Family & Friends Fun

heartache

It's been a tough week for so many Australians who have been touched by the Victorian Bushfires. As a dry & hot nation we are accustomed to fires during our summer months but never has it hit as hard and ferociously as it did last Saturday night. My heart goes out to all of those who have lost family or friends, or who are left with the scars & terrifying memories of surviving Australia's worst ever natural disaster.

To be honest, and I know this probably sounds a little crazy, I've been avoiding this post as I feel my writing skills are not honed enough to sufficiently put into words the devastation. It breaks my heart to think of the children who have lost so much. Lost their mums or dads, or both. Lost brothers, sisters, nanas, pops, cousins, school friends, teachers, pets etc. How do you explain this to a child? As a Mum, I can't imagine how I would deal with this. All for what? For a very sad individual to get their thrills. One arsonist has been arrested today with a continuing investigation taking place to find others responsible for starting the fires, which continue to blaze and threaten country Victoria.

On a brighter note, I'd like to share these links with you. There are some amazing people out there rallying around to help raise money and assist those in need. The recommended way to contribute right now is to donate money. Go to the Australian Red Cross website for details on how you can do this.

If you'd like to help in other ways, check out Handmade Help, The Toy Society or Our Community

Here, Emma so eloquently writes much of what I've been thinking. And yes! I agree Emma -now as Mum, I'm the sobbing red-eyed mess you find in the cinema when the lights go on. It doesn't take much to get me going!

the shed's down!

Hooley dooley! It's been dry and dusty, and did I say hot? Yes. Bloody hot. Today is 43 degrees again.

Can you imagine this? OUTSIDE - a bobcat tearing up the shed & concrete slabs that have been gathering dirt & dust for decades. INSIDE - house filling with dirt and dust as window glass has been removed and waiting for replacement to go in. Ooooh yeah....great timing Fiona! Did I say I was project managing these renovations????

plugging my talented friend (not that she needs it)

My friend De is one of those creative gals who achieves many of those things we just dream about. This article in Australian House & Garden Magazine (October 2008) featured De along with 2 other craftswomen in an article called "Hearts & Craft".

You can also read other articles and interviews here:

As well as being a talented Interior Designer with her own practice Dearne Herrengberg Interiors, she has a jewellery range called Mainichi. Oh and she is Mum to 1 year old Andre, which I'm sure she would agree is her greatest achievement.

This is De's philosophy behind the range.

"Mainichi design inverts the concept of precious jewellery. There are no precious metals or jewels in these pieces, instead, unexpected, ordinary and everyday materials become pieces of wearable art."

Here is one of the latest in her shop. Oooooh..... I just love it! Don't worry.... I already have a Mainichi collection of my own :)
